More myths debunked!

Everyone's favourite food! So are these Mcdonalds Chicken McNuggets really that unhealthy? Well from a doctor's point of view, at least it is real chicken in these nuggets. But too much deep friend food is nevertherless unhealthy. I wonder the staff at Tyson's food who taste nuggets as a job, if she gets any health benefits/insurance from eating that much fried food on a daily basis. One still wonders about the type of oil used in the frying of these nuggets and the amount of Saturated fat present in oil. Because that lies the true association between high cholesterol and heart diseases.

Dental Truths and Myths

As you know The Clifford Clinic offers dental services as well, so I have been doing quite a bit of reading up on dental care as well as various pathologies and treatment options. I'm like most people.. I absolutely hate going to the dentist. In fact I had a recent cleaning done by our dentist at the clinic and I was scared stiff! Well, came across this very interesting website recently.

http://butternutrition.com/heal-cavities-fact-or-fiction/

Of this entire website, there are a few myths which I can share my 2 cents worth.

1) Myth #1: “Nothing hurts so I must be OK”
To be honest, I always thought this was true. But dental disease if discovered at a very early stage actually is very easily treatable and is often asymptomatic - ie painless. Once it starts to hurt, more invasive and painful treatments are often needed.

I will probably try to go for check-ups more frequently.. sigh..

2) Myth #2: “I’ve heard you can heal cavities with XX and Myth #3: “An abscessed tooth can be healed”
Medically this doesn't make sense. You cannot reverse damage or infection. Once it gets infected, it needs medical treatment. Infection of the bone / tooth doesn't heal itself.

3) Myth #4: “You don’t need to take X-rays on me today unless you see a problem.”
I'm not too sure about this. I wouldn't take an X-ray of a patient's arm/leg/lungs unless I feel that there might be a problem. Would I want an X-ray to be taken if I visit the dentist for a regular check-up? I truly am unable to commend on this. Maybe ask your dentist and see what he thinks?

Happy New Year!!

It has been a great year so far. Many thanks to all my patients who have entrusted their care in my hands. It has been a pleasure treating everyone, going through your symptoms and watching those pathology slowly resolve as we revisit them every so often.

It has also been an absolute joy to see the effects of the fillers or lasers. An absolute joy to hear your stories on how the little things I've done has changed your lives.

I look forward to 2015! Stay beautiful, stay young!

Pigmentmented spots over the face

Was doing some research on the web regarding the recent increase in pigmented lesions over the face that I have been seeing, to get myself up to date on the latest treatment options.

After reading through some clinical papers, I came across this article in the Annals of Dermatology

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2861240/

Figure 2.

Figure 2 from their article showed
(A) A 27-year-old female with ABNOM before treatment. (B) Improvement in ABNOM after three QSNYL treatments. Results were excellent, with a 75~100% reduction in colour.

Basically these women were treated with Q-switch laser. Similar to what we have at The Clifford Clinic.
(1,064 nm, 3 mm spot size, fluence 8~9.5 J/cm2) and they were treated for up to 10 sessions each.

Results - 66% showed excellent or good results. Of the patients who were treated more than 3 times, 76% showed good to excellent results. Two patients experienced post-laser hyperpigmentation (PLH), which persisted for more than one month, but no patient experienced persistent erythema or hypertrophic scarring.

Results from this proved encouraging. Their energy for the laser used is definitely similar although there are some small differences. No doubt they have been achieving similar results to what we have here in Singapore.

What makes my day...

I met a few patients from my previous company who came to visit me!! It bring me such great joy to see them.. more importantly because these patients have somewhat became my friends and there has been a serious of unfortunate circumstances which is why I am now in The Clifford Clinic.
http://www.cliffordclinic.com/

The Clifford Clinic is actually started by my mentor Dr Chow and myself. As to why this sudden weird arrangement and why the awkwardness at TCS? Well.. I guess when this entire saga is eventually over, I will find the time to explain to those who are keen to find out more personally.

Till then, I hope all my patients are fine and well and I hope to see you all again soon.

It has been a difficult month for me and I would like to use this opportunity to apologize to all my patients at TCS Aesthetics at Central who have been under my care. Sorry for the abrupt absence. Some of you may have seen it coming but I am sure to many of the rest this may have been very sudden.
